TITLE: HEALTH ATTENDANT
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or verifiable G.E.D. Prefer valid state license as a practical nurse or registered nurse. Previous health aide experience and EMT certification desirable. Current CPR, First Aide and AED certification.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL:To pr ovide a climate of health and well being for each district student and staff member by maintaining a total school health program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with or conducts school health service programs such as, but not limited to, vision screenings, hearing screenings, Scoliosis screenings and immunizations screenings.
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students, referring parents to Health Department or physicians when necessary.
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Refers students in need of medical and/or dental care to qualified personnel.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
- Applies first aide to a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or
emergency illness. Contacts paramedics for assistance if there is any doubt about the extent of the injury or illness.
- Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health
program.
- Contacts proper authorities (Child Protection Services or Local Police) regarding any case of child neglect or if abuse is suspected in accordance with State Law.
- Prepares and submits reports for the principal, superintendent and State Health Department in timely manner as required.
- Authorizes exclusions and re-admission of students in connection with infectious or contagious diseases in compliance with immunizations. Also advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
- Participates in in-services and training programs.
- Assists the school secretary in compiling attendance reports, student cumulative records and any other reports that might due.
- Prepare records of students who have been inactive for two (2) years for permanent storage following District protocol.
- Performs all other duties as may be assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-month year. Hourly rate and workdays to be established by the Board approved schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Staff.
